Cork Industry targets schoolchildren with online campaign

by | news

A website – PlanetCork.org – has been set up with the help of Euro Strategies to teach primary schoolchildren about ‘sustainable development’, a core subject in the UK schools’ curriculum.

The website character ‘Corkie’ offers lessons and downloadable class materials explaining how the cork forests maintain the water table, prevent soil erosion and provide a rich, diverse habitat for numerous plants, animals, insects and migratory birds in countries all around the Mediterranean.

In addition, posters show why cork trees are so special: reducing ‘greenhouse’ gases more than other trees through the regular harvest of bark and providing us with cork, a unique renewable and biodegradable material that can be recycled time and time again.

The site is sponsored by the UK Cork Industry Federation and will be officially launched at UK Aware, the UK’s Green Lifestyle show, Olympia, London on a stand designed and organised by Euro Strategies.
